Blood Red Delusion is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Kotka, Finland, combining controlled aggression and emotional weight through riff-driven songwriting.

Early Years

The roots of Blood Red Delusion stretch back to 2008 in Kotka, Finland, when guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Juuso Laitinen began playing and writing songs with two friends. After a while, drummer Matias Ahtiainen joined the group, completing the lineup.

The band played its first show at Matias' stepfather's 50th birthday party in the autumn of 2009.

In 2010, the original guitarist and bassist left the band to pursue other interests. During the summer of the same year, Miika Lönnblad joined as the new guitarist. His arrival helped shape the band's identity through dual-guitar melodies, harmonized leads and a stronger focus on guitar-driven songwriting.

During their formative years, Juuso and Miika spent countless hours playing, writing and developing their craft together.

In 2016, after two bassists came and went, multi-instrumentalist Patrick Hakamäki joined the band and took over bass duties.

From Deathproof to Blood Red Delusion

The band originally operated under the name Deathproof. However, after Quentin Tarantino's film of the same name became widely known, the members felt that the band would always struggle to stand out and be discovered under that name.

During discussions about a new identity, drummer Matias Ahtiainen suggested the name Blood Red Cell. While the idea started the process, Juuso ultimately developed the name Blood Red Delusion, which became the band's new identity.

The band's logo was inspired by the typography of the Red Dead Redemption video game series.

In 2020, during the recording of the debut album State of Fear, the band officially adopted the Blood Red Delusion name and began taking a more focused approach to songwriting, recording and promotion.

A New Voice

In 2021, Juuso decided he wanted more freedom with the guitar on stage and began looking for a dedicated vocalist.

Around that time, he met Hannu Mikkola through work and invited him to join the band.

Hannu initially declined. Having recently married and occupied with other responsibilities, he felt he could not commit enough time to a band.

Nine months later, the timing was right.

After a few rehearsals, Hannu officially joined Blood Red Delusion as the band's vocalist.

Ruthless Behaviour

In late 2022, work began on the band's second album.

Throughout 2023, Blood Red Delusion focused heavily on writing and recording new material. On December 6, 2023, the single Ruthless Behaviour launched the campaign leading to the release of the full-length album of the same name on February 14, 2024.

The album marked a significant step forward for the band in terms of songwriting, production and overall direction.

Bloodlust Awakening

By the fall of 2024, most of the material for the band's third album had already been written and recording sessions were scheduled for early 2025.

However, major lineup changes followed when long-time members Miika Lönnblad and Matias Ahtiainen stepped away from the band.

Despite the setback, recording continued on schedule. Bassist and multi-instrumentalist Patrick Hakamäki took over drum duties and recorded the entire album's drum tracks in just two days.

In the summer of 2025, Juuso's brother Tomi Laitinen joined the band as guitarist after already performing several shows as a live replacement guitarist. His transition into the lineup was a natural fit.

Throughout the remainder of 2025, the band completed recording and production of its third album while rebuilding the lineup.

In early 2026, drummer Lenni Junkkari joined Blood Red Delusion, completing the current lineup.

Released on March 13, 2026, Bloodlust Awakening represents the band's most focused and mature work to date. Built on intensity, hard-earned experience and a clear artistic vision, the album explores frustration, isolation, endurance and the struggle to break free from the weight of the past.

These songs are not about victory.

They are about carrying weight and moving forward despite it.

Today

With more than 100 live performances and three full-length albums—State of Fear (2020), Ruthless Behaviour (2024) and Bloodlust Awakening (2026)—Blood Red Delusion continues to build momentum both on stage and online.

Following international media coverage across more than 20 outlets in 12 countries, the band enters its next chapter with a clear identity and a growing audience.
